Lockdown impact: Kashmir’s Pir Panjal Range is now clearly visible from Srinagar

On April 3, the entire nation, more so the residents of Jalandhar city in Punjab, got a sweet surprise when they witnessed Dhauladhar Mountain range for the first time in a decade. The sight was a bonus reaped by the people due to the reduced pollution levels during the India-wide lockdown. For many people, beholding the mountain range was no less than a miracle.

Now lately, something similar has happened in Kashmir. In Srinagar, the locals were delighted to view the majestic Pir Panjal Mountain range, that is now clearly visible, all thanks to the lockdown and the subsequent drop in pollution levels.

Pir Panjal range that stretches from Himachal Pradesh to Jammu and Kashmir can be seen from Srinagar in Kashmir now. The mountain range is anyway visible from Srinagar, but the reduction in air pollution has made the sight more vivid and worthy of a picture.

Photojournalist Waseem Andrabi posted the delightful picture of the mountain range on Twitter. One can also see the popular Hazratbal Shrine and Hari Parbat Fort in the photo.

Most of us would be acquainted with the name Pir Panjal Mountain Range thanks to the geography lessons taught in school. Pir Panjal range is also called Pir Ki Gali. It is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in Kashmir and links the valley with Rajouri and Poonch districts via Mughal Road.
