Varanasi will remain under total lockdown on Wednesday according to the mandates of district authorities in Varanasi. According to the latest reports, 12 new cases of Coronavirus infection were reported on Tuesday in the city, thus, forcing the authorities to take this extreme measure.
The areas under Varanasi municipal limits including shops, fruit and vegetable mandis as well as home delivery services will remain suspended on Wednesday. No curfew passes will be issued to anyone for the day.
Only officials working in the government offices and essential services, as well as health workers of private and government hospitals deployed to treat COVID-19 patients will be permitted to travel.
Kaushal Raj Sharma, District Magistrate, told the press that the call to open shops and restarting of other services in a different manner will be taken after April 29. The magistrate also warned anyone of not violating the curfew by venturing out of the house except for any medical emergency. Strict action will be taken by the police if anyone is caught defying the curfew.
In Varanasi, about 49 people have tested positive for Coronavirus. In Uttar Pradesh, 2000 cases of COVID-19 infection have been registered and 31 people have died.
