Unlock 1.0: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Northeast will NOT allow inter-state vehicle movement

After four continuous Coronavirus triggered nationwide lockdowns, the country is beginning to unlock in a phased manner. Though the Centre has permitted states to lift restrictions on inter-state travel of people, some states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and others in the Northeast have decided not to relax restrictions on the movement of inter-state vehicles and people as of yet.

States such as Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (UP), Punjab and Rajasthan, following the Centre Government’s advisory have lifted the inter-state travel restrictions under Unlock 1, which is also being called Lockdown 5.0. Although it might be the end of Lockdown 4.0 for the rest of the country, for states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Northeast states, it’s not going to end anytime soon.

The Northeast states, Meghalaya and Mizoram have decided to continue the ban on inter-state vehicle movements. No inter-district or inter-state vehicular movement without e-passes will be allowed in these two states till June 6.

The UP Government announced that starting June 1, there won’t be any restrictions on inter-state travel. However, for Ghaziabad and Noida, the district administrations will take a decision on the movement of people from Delhi (NCR).

Also, the Karnataka Government has permitted inter-state movement, but there’s a catch. People would need separate orders by the Health and Family Welfare Department for entering the state.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Government too has lifted all inter-state movement restrictions and there won’t be any separate permission or e-permit required from now on to travel to Punjab. However, people would need to install COVA app and self-generated ‘e-pass’ (mandatory).

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister also announced that from now on people won’t need e-passes for travelling interstate in their personal vehicles. Though the decision on resuming inter-state public transport will be taken on June 7 only.
