Uber has now launched Uber Essentials in select Indian cities. In a total of five Indian cities, including Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Nashik, and Hyderabad, you can avail this new service. Uber has taken all necessary permissions from the authorities to begin this service, which is supposed to help people and be a reliable source of transportation for riders. However, one important factor here is that you will need to carry documents that can prove your purpose for travel.
The company had earlier suspended services during the lockdown in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is looking forward to a promising new comeback. According to officials in Uber, the operation is going to keep safety and hygiene in mind, and drivers would be masked, wearing gloves, and using hand sanitizer. The company is already doing partial services for doctors and health workers, and ferrying essentials, but with the new Uber Essentials, it is going to allow its taxis to run to hospitals and pharmacies.
The Uber app on your phone has been updated and will be working for essential service areas only, The initiative is also going to help the company’s driver partners, who are the ones on the receiving end of the lockdown in terms of finance.
According to Uber officials, the drivers who will do the runs for Uber Essentials have been trained for the purpose, and have been given curfew passes for seamless movement.
