The iconic New York Broadway to remain shut for the rest of 2020

Your things to do in New York list will probably not have watching a Broadway production for the rest of 2020. As of now, it has been reported that Broadway shows are going on a sabbatical for the rest of the year.

One of New York’s finest attractions, Broadway shows are extremely popular, and very prestigious among actors. Some of the biggest names, from Nicole Kidman to Daniel Radcliffe, have gone on Broadway shows. Then, there are Broadway legends such as Julie Andrews and Barbra Streisend who have made a name for themselves across the world. This iconic New York experience will have to wait for 2021 now because of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis that we are going through.

New York’s 41 venues for Broadway theatre will be closed for the rest of the year, and they have been closed since March, 2020. Of course, this is a major disappointment to the industry and is a blow to all parties involved. Broadway theatres, of course, are unable to host a house full of audience, and this is why they are forced to remain shut for the rest of 2020.

According to Thomas Schumacher, Chairman of the Board at The Broadway League, “Every single member of our community is eager to get back to work sharing stories that inspire our audience through the transformative power of a shared live experience.”

Reports also suggest that Broadway actually contributed massively to the city’s economy, to the tune of US$14.7bn during the 2018-19 season. It even supported 96900 jobs. But now with the shutdown for the rest of the year, tough times lie ahead.
