Singapore to start Cruises to Nowhere to boost tourism

The concept of Flights to Nowhere has been creating waves all this while, but it is now time to share the stage with Cruises to Nowhere. Singapore has now announced that it will be launching cruises that actually don’t visit any port.

Reportedly, Singapore’s national tourism board has partnered with two cruise lines for pilot runs. It has partnered with Royal Caribbean International’s Quantum of the Seas and Genting Cruise Lines’ World Dream for this initiative.

Reportedly, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) issued a press release, stating that Genting Cruise Lines’ World Dream will start offering cruise services from November 6, whereas Royal Caribbean International’s Quantum of the Seas will set sail from December.

The STB further stated that the two vessels, whose home ports are in Singapore, will be part of a pilot scheme, which will go on round-trips with no ports of call.

The cruise experience will, however, be different from the experiences. To ensure that hygiene protocols are in places, the cruise ships will depart from and return to the same spot, with no port calls in between. Also, these ships will operate at no more than 50 per cent capacity, and will be available for Singapore residents only as of now.

Regarding this, Dream Cruises President Michael Goh said that they are delighted to be the first cruise ship to restart operations in Singapore, which will provide the much-needed boost to the local tourism industry. He also added that this initiative will provide locals here with more vacation options beyond land-based resorts.

As of now, onboard amenities and ticket prices for these cruises have not been announced yet. The motivation behind this initiative is Flights to Nowhere, a concept welcomed by many. It is expected that cruise tickets would also sell out quickly once available.
