Noida: Section 144 extended till May 31

With the start of lockdown 4.0 in India, came certain relaxations. The Uttar Pradesh Government also announced relaxations on similar lines. However, after two days of the announcement, Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate Suhas LY on Wednesday reiterated that the Noida-Delhi border would remain sealed for now.

Gautam Budh Nagar district, which falls in the Red Zone, has now extended the imposition of Section 144 under Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) till May 31, to contain the spread of Coronavirus.

The Gautam Buddha Nagar District administration also noted that guidelines have been sought from the state government on travel into Noida from Delhi; until then, the status quo will be maintained at the Delhi-Noida border.

Section 144 of CrPC bars assembly of four or more people. Prior permission will be required for any wedding event and that not more than 20 people will be allowed to attend it. Also, people should abide by the social distancing rules during such events.

Referring to this, the police stated that all kinds of mass gatherings, such as social, political, or religious congregations, processions, and protest rallies will not be permitted across Noida and Greater Noida, during the said time frame.Reportedly, movement of only those who have passes or who are associated with the essential services will be allowed movement by the district administration. Earlier, Section 144 was imposed in the area till May 17, which was then again extended till May 31 on Wednesday in the wake of surge in Coronavirus cases.

Gautam Budh Nagar Additional Commissioner of Police also stated that those, who are found flouting the rules, will be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
