Mumbai airport gears up to resume operations; issues advisory for post-lockdown travel

Mumbai airport is gearing up for commercial flights post the lockdown that India is in. The airport authorities have also issued an advisory for passengers, who are considering a post-lockdown trip. While there is no nod from the government about commercial flights or related services, airports around the country are taking all necessary steps to start operations in a safe manner if the lockdown ends on May 3.

Mumbai airport, one of the busiest airports in the country, is putting necessary precautions in place, including efforts for social distancing, sanitising airport services, disinfection of the airport terminals and the connected area around. It has been stated that the airport services will assure that there is minimum distance of 1.5 m between passengers,

The authorities have also issued a statement, stating that, “CSMIA puts special emphasis on the need for passengers to wear masks and gloves during the entire course of their travel… encourage passengers to check-in online from the comfort of their home or office; use card payment transaction and contactless payment at airport restaurants and retail stores.”

As India’s second busiest airport, the facility at Mumbai has also come up with quarantine centers in case any passenger exhibit symptoms of the Coronavirus. Mandatory screening of all passengers has been put in place for all passengers before terminal entry. In addition, sanitisers, self check-in facilities, dedicated personnel to help travellers are also in place. The airport, when it reopens, plans to function with just 50% of its regular staff as directed by the government.

The airport authorities have also stated that they are ready to resume services as and when the government gives a go-ahead.
