Hawaii changes quarantine rules; visitors with negative test results can skip the isolation

In a bid to boost tourism in the state, Hawaii has announced that visitors with negative Coronavirus test results can escape the 14-day quarantine starting August 1, 2020. Travellers coming to Hawaii from other states will need to provide a negative COVID-19 test to escape Hawaii’s mandatory 14-day quarantine.

David Ige, Governor of Hawaii, said that travellers will now have to undergo a PCR (nasal-swab) test approved by the Hawaii State Department of Health before arrival. They must present their negative test result, printed or emailed pre-test certification, upon arrival.

The new testing program is still under the development phase and officials are expected to require an FDA-approved PCR test. But visitors will have to bear the price of the test along with completing Hawaii’s Travel and Health form.

In an official statement Ige said, “The health of our community remains our primary focus. This multi-layered pre-travel testing and screening process allows travellers an alternative to the 14-day travel quarantine in a way that protects the health and safety of our kamai’aina and visitors. Now is the time to work together to ensure that our local businesses can safely re-open to incoming travelers.”

As per new rules, only temperature will be checked at the airports across the state and if anyone registers temperature more than 100.4 degrees or shows any symptoms of the virus, they will have to take another test.

Hawaii has registered 816 Coronavirus positive cases and 17 deaths till now.
