China has been constructing the world’s largest soccer stadium in Guangzhou. News has it that the stadium has been so designed to look like a blooming lotus flower with a brightly-made arena. The design has been ideated to pay tribute to Guangzhou, which is also known as China’s Flower City.
Reportedly, the stadium would have the capacity to accommodate 1 lakh visitors; it would also have 16 VVIP and 152 VIP suites. China’s new soccer stadium will be a rank above Barcelona’s Camp Nou, which is at number one in the world as of now.
China is spending a whopping $1.7 billion on this project, which has been handled by the Evergrande Group, the largest real estate company in China. The group has also sponsored the Guangzhou soccer team, winner of eight Chinese Super League titles.
Named as Evergrande Stadium, the under-construction soccer stadium shall be the new world-class landmark like Sydney’s Opera House and Burj Khalifa in Dubai, as told by Xia Haijun, Evergrande’s president, to the press. According to the reports, the stadium shall be ready in 2022, ahead of the soccer Asian Cup.
Guangzhou is China’s third-largest city, and a port city at that. Due to its closeness to Hong Kong, Guangzhou has become a strategic commercial centre. It is also the only city in China that is especially known for traditional Chinese cuisine.
