8428 domestic flights per week for three months from May 25; more guidelines in place

After the declaration that domestic flights can resume from May 25, it has been made clear that a total of 8428 flights will operate every week for three months. Starting May 25, the trend will continue till August 25, and domestic airlines will operate this specific number of flights each week.

On Thursday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) held a meeting with representatives of all the leading Indian airlines, wherein the decision was taken. In the meeting held at the headquarters of the DGCA, social distancing rules were followed and only two representatives from each airline were allowed to attend.

In the meeting, domestic fares were also discussed; for domestic flight, the ticket cost has been set between INR 2000 and INR 18600 for seven fare bands. The bands are decided according to the duration of the flight with “A” band being the shortest and “G” the longest. Each band will have its minimum and maximum fares.

Guideline for domestic travel

As per the latest guidelines shared by the Civil Aviation Ministry for airlines and passengers:

1) A passenger should not travel if he/she is staying in a containment zone.

2) If they have tested positive for the Coronavirus.

3) Health certification is expected from passengers through the Aarogya Setu app or a self-declaration form.

4) Masks and gloves and other protective gear is a must.

5) Passengers must carry sanitisers.

6) Meals should be brought by the passengers as airlines would not provide any food item.

7) Passengers are advised to reach two hours before departure.
