Some hopeful news coming from one of the most-visited beach destinations in Asia! Bali might start welcoming tourists from foriegn lands, starting October 2020. Though the dates have not been declared yet, the Balinese government is reportedly planning to reopen once again between June and October.
Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, Secretary of the Ministry, in an official statement said, “If the infection curve continued to improve, the tourism ministry is looking to revitalize destinations and do promotional work for some parts of the country, including Bali, between June and October.”
Another official from Bali said that the government is planning and preparing for Bali to reopen and they are hopeful that with the flattening curve and a decrease in cases, Bali will reopen in July, which is faster and much before than any other regions in Indonesia.
However, this will be only possible with a host of safety measures and checks for international visitors. The government is now planning to launch a new CHS (Cleanliness, Health and Safety) programme, which will allow hotels and restaurants in the country to open.
As per the Ministry of Tourism, the first destination under this program will be the island of Nusa Dua, which is home to numerous luxury beach resorts. The details will be much clearer between June and October so that Bali, along with some more Indonesian islands, can be prepared to welcome visitors.
Bali’s deputy governor Tjokorda Oka Arta Ardhana said they are trying to establish “tourism clusters” or exclusive tourist zones where high-level health protocols would be implemented given the threat of highly contagious COVID-19.
As of now, Bali is open for domestic tourism officially with new entry requirements for all Indonesians. However, in order to visit Bali, tourists will first need to undergo a COVID-19 test and get a health certificate declaring that they do not have the virus. This was mentioned under a new policy that was issued by the Bali government a few days back.
According to the official data, Bali has recorded 407 Coronavirus positive cases and 4 deaths so far while Indonesia has 23165 cases and recorded 1418 deaths.
