World Heritage Day: Delhi’s top 5 monuments to light up today in honour of corona warriors

On this World Heritage Day, five of the most-visited monuments in Delhi will be illuminated in a special manner. The ASI has planned this to honour the camaraderie of the ‘corona warriors.’

As per the latest reports, the Red Fort, Qutab Minar, Purana Qila, Humayun’s Tomb, and Safdarjung’s Tomb, which are being lit up daily, will be illuminated in a special manner today, i.e., on World Heritage Day. As per the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), these monuments will get illuminated with special lightings, i.e., with candles and diyas.

In Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, and Qutub Minar, the ASI will be lighting candles and diyas to express solidarity to the ‘corona warriors’. However, ASI Delhi Circle will also organise diya lighting ceremony at Red Fort and candle lighting ceremony at Qutub Minar and Humayun’s Tomb to express solidarity with all corona warriors like sanitation workers, police officers, doctors, and civil administration, the ASI stated.

Reportedly, the ASI will light 41 candles at Humayun’s Tomb, to symbolize the 41 days of lockdown period. Lighting of these candles will also denote that one candle of humanity is enough to fight darkness. Also, 41 candles will last for 41 hours to mark their fight with corona during the 41 days lockdown period, it further added.

Apart from this, the ASI India has also decided to organise online pledge taking ceremonies, in which school students will be administered oath online. As per this programme, the students will read a pledge to safeguard and respect the monuments and their heritage.
