Known for his classic and evergreen fairytales, Hans Christian Andersen, has a new museum in his name due to open for visitors in the summer of 2021. Located in Odense, Denmark, the birthplace of Danish author, the objective of H.C. Andersen’s House is to share a new perspective to the story of the fairytale writer’s life and works with the world.
Andersen passed away in 1875 and has written marvellous stories like The Snow Queen, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Ugly Duckling, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, The Princess and the Pea, The Nightingale, The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina and The Little Match Girl.
For H.C. Andersen’s House, architects Kengo Kuma and Associates have taken the cue from the fairytale called The Tinderbox. As told by Kuma to an international travel website, design has been inspired by Andersen’s method, which involves a small world suddenly expanding into a bigger universe.
According to the news reports, the intense and artistic space is meant to instill the feeling of entering Andersen’s fairytales via design, light sound and a stream of pictures. The gardens and buildings are spread over an area of 9000 sq m, and the exhibition ushers to his real childhood home. The main building has a café and visitor amenities; there is a children’s house and underground museum intertwining with a magical garden.
