Uttarakhand CM seeks Prime Minister’s approval to restart tourism in the green-zone regions

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, in a video conferencing session with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, sought permission to restart tourism (limited) activities in non-infected green zones regions of the Himalayan state. He said that the state has suffered heavy financial losses because of the nationwide lockdown caused by the spread of the Coronavirus.

The CM also sought Centre’s approval to reopen residential schools and resume economic activities outside containment zones, along with opening homestays under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

CM Rawat requested the PM to give the state permission to begin limited tourism activities within green zone districts. He further informed the PM that about 500 doctors and other medical workers are deployed to ramp up facilities to fight the Coronavirus.

Virus testing facilities have also gone up in the hill state, owing to which, the state government has been able to contain the number of positive cases to 68. As per the current analysis, the rate of doubling of virus cases in the state is 45 days, while the recovery rate is 67.6 per cent.

Mr Rawat also informed the PM in the meeting that the state has brought back nearly 45000 migrants at the government’s expenses and INR 2000 has been deposited into accounts of nearly two lakh labourers. Along with this, production work has been started with 45 per cent staff in 3500 industries.

The CM also thanked PM Modi for his timely action of the lockdown, which reduced the number of positive cases in the country tremendously. With all these reasons, the CM now seeks Centre’s permission to resume limited tourism activities in the non-containment zones of the state.
