Thousands of flights canceled as busy summer travel season heats up

Airways are scrambling to recover soon after cancelling much more than 2,800 flights considering that Thursday as extreme temperature pushed by the Northeast.

The majority of the cancellations and delays transpired Thursday as storms handed via. The disruptions then bled into Friday as carriers worked to get well from the vacation mess.

Airports that expert the most cancellations were the New York Town space airports, Charlotte Douglas Intercontinental Airport and Boston Logan Intercontinental Airport, according to flight-tracking web site FlightAware.

Airline executives fulfilled with Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg Thursday to discuss how to protect against widespread cancellations and delays forward of the July 4 getaway.

Buttigieg pressed airways around their skill to reliably function getaway flight schedules and questioned them to make improvements to consumer experience, a resource familiar with the assembly instructed ABC News.

The secretary also stated the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) would proceed to preserve air site visitors sleek and on routine soon after criticism from some business teams that FAA floor stops and delays brought on by temperature and staffing problems resulted in several delays above Memorial Day Weekend.

The FAA claims it is operating to use much more air targeted traffic controllers for its services as it has had to reduce air targeted traffic in some of the busiest airspace thanks daily staffing shortages.
