This village in Ladakh gets electricity for the first time

Even today, India has villages that continue to stay deprived of power supply. However, the people of a village in Leh district have lately been blessed to experience what it feels to have electricity-run bulbs in their small homes.

Known as Fotoksar, this village is located between Ladakh’s two prime high-altitude passes. It took seven decades for this village to get access to power supply after India attained independence.

According to the latest reports, the NHPC power grid line for Photoksar village was inaugurated by Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh Tashi Gyalson.

Apparently, the natives of Fotoksar are elated with the arrival of electricity in their homes, and are looking forward to a life of more convenience. This would also help them encourage tourism activities in the coming times.

Fotoksar is about 165 km from the nearest airport city of Leh. It is located a little beyond the Sisir-La Pass (15,620 ft). However, the Sisir-La Pass is open for vehicular traffic only in summers.

Reportedly, the Central government will also introduce power supply to more villages in regions such as Skyumpata, Lingshed, Yulchung, Nyraks and Dipling in near future.
