After keeping its borders closed for tourists for a long time due to the spread of Coronavirus, Sikkim has announced that it will welcome tourists from October 10.
Reportedly, the Sikkim state government has permitted hotels, homestays and all tourism-related services to restart operations. In addition, the Sikkim border with West Bengal will also be reopened for unrestricted road travel from October 1, 2020.
As in other Indian states, Sikkim will also issue SOPs for hotels and the tourism sector in the coming days. News has it tourists keen on making a trip to Sikkim can start booking hotels and homestays from 27 September. On the other hand, Inner Line Permits for international tourists with valid visas would be granted from October 10.
According to the news reports, the Sikkim state government may keep the odd-even rule for public vehicles in place even after October 1.
Sikkim has implemented the road rationing rule, by limiting the number of cars as per the last digit of their registration number, to reduce vehicular traffic in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
