Select Indian airlines begin online bookings for domestic travel from June

As per latest reports, a few airlines have started taking passenger bookings for domestic travel from June onwards as commercial flight services remaining suspended till May 31 (lockdown 4.0). All the commercial flights activities were suspended in the country in March, when the first lockdown was imposed country-wide in order to stop the spread of the deadly Coronavirus.

Since then, the lockdown kept increasing and the flight services were postponed in sync.

However, as per sources, select domestic airlines have opened bookings from the month of June. IndiGo and Vistara, as per sources, are taking bookings for domestic flights while SpiceJet in a statement said,” Our international bookings are closed till June 15.”

However, no official statement has been released by Vistara or IndiGo on the commencement of bookings. Before this, Air India had said that it will restart domestic flights only after the Union Government allows it. The government-run airline also asked people to follow the Twitter handles of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Air India in order to stay updated regarding resumption of commercial flight services.

On Monday, Sudhakara Reddy, Air Passengers Association of India (APAI) National President , asked people not to fall for these claims by airlines. He said, “We understand 6E (IndiGo), SpiceJet, GoAir hv started taking bookings for international flights, imagining that flights will operate from 1st June. Pl don’t fall for it. Ur money will become a credit shell, instead keep it safe at home”

Soon after his post, the nationwide lockdown was extended till May 31 and all scheduled commercial flights again got suspended till the lockdown 4.0 period.

The new advisory

The civil aviation ministry has now asked domestic airlines to give full refund to customers who want to cancel their bookings for that period. An advisory was issued after passengers began to complain on social media platforms that domestic carriers were not refunding in cash for cancelled flights due to the lockdown but are issuing credit shells for future travel.

Later, the ministry had to intervene and an advisory was issued that any flight ticket booked between the lockdown period of March 25 and May 3 is entitled to get a full refund without any cancellation charges.
