Santa Claus’ village ready to reopen for tourists

With barely three months left in Christmas celebrations, Lapland has decided to remove restrictions on entry of foreign tourists. For the uninitiated, Laplap is the native village of the legendary Santa Claus.

Christmas at Santa’s village

The Santa Claus Village is located on the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi, Lapland. Reportedly, the grand opening of the Xmas season will begin on November 8, Sunday, with performances by pretend elves and local artists.

As per recent announcements made by the Finnish government to lift travel restrictions, tourists will be able to visit Finland from Germany and Norway among other destinations.

Reaching there

Santa Claus’ village ready to reopen for tourists

The Santa Claus Village is open every day for visitors. You can relish a Finnish meal with Santa and his family; ride a reindeer and make gingerbread homes. To reach Santa, land at the Rovaniemi airport and board bus number 8 or the Santa Express, which departs every hour from the city centre.

What else to do?

Watching Northern Lights is the most significant activity for tourists visiting Santa’s village. The best time to behold these astral lights is from mid-August to early April. You can also choose to watch the Northern Lights on a reindeer-driven sleigh.
Another activity to do is alpine skiing, snowboarding and ice fishing. All in all, there is enough to do here, but usually at an extra cost. Go for Snowman World, reindeer sleigh rides, husky rides, visit Santa’s Post Office, meet Santa himself etc.
