Put Uttarakhand travel plans on hold; lockdown in state extended by a week

Given the COVID-19 situation in the country, the Uttarakhand government has decided to extend state lockdown by a week. The government has decided to extend the curfew to put a stop on the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

The virus-triggered curfew was supposed to end in Uttarakhand on May 18 at 6 AM, but due to the fast-spreading second variant of COVID-19, the government has decided to extend curfew till 6 AM of May 25. The announcement was made by the Cabinet Minister and the state government’s official spokesman, Subodh Uniyal.

People who wish to enter the state for marriage purposes, it is necessary for them to bring their COVID-19 negative negative RT-PCR test report to the programme. The report must not be older than 72 hours. Also the number of guests is limited to 20, informed the spokesperson.

Not only this, the government has also put a cap on the number of people attending funerals to 20. Those attending a funeral or visiting the burial ground will need a curfew pass issued by the administration to do.

By extending the lockdown and curfew, the government hopes to break the transmission chain of the virus. Only essential stores including grocery outlets and bakery shops will remain open from 7 AM to 10 AM during the lockdown period. Banks are allowed to operate between 10 AM and 2 PM.
