Portugal has now extended its flight restrictions until May 16, in order to curb the spread of Coronavirus. The European nation has stopped all non-essential travel from countries that have a high rate of infection. Countries such as Brazil and India are also included in the banned list.
Other nations including France, Croatia, the Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden, and Cyprus have also been added in the category. However, this does not mean that travellers from other countries can freely enter Portugal, as they are expected to do under a 14-day quarantine.
Those people from countries, where 500 or more cases per 100000 people have been reported, can only enter Portugal if there is a valid reason. These include, family reunion, humanitarian reasons, healthcare, study, or professionals.
According to Portugal’s Ministry of Internal Administration, travellers arriving in Portugal by air must present a COVID negative report, a PCR one. Such a test should be conducted within 72 hours before departure. The only exception to this rule is that for children under the age of 2.
On the other hand, travellers from countries where there are 150 or more cases per 100000 people, can also only travel to Portugal for essential work. They are also required to show a COVID-19 negative test report; in case they do not have such a report, they will have to take the test at the airport and await the result.
