Notre-Dame reconstruction work to continue amidst lockdown in Paris

The beautiful Notre-Dame cathedral of Paris that suffered a tragic fire incident last year was going through renovation works when the coronavirus hit, and Paris went under lockdown. After a period of no work, the workers are reportedly back to working on repairing the cathedral in Paris. The rebuilding work was temporarily halted for a month and a half.

The Notre-Dame de Paris caught on fire on April 15, 2019, and the world watched in horror. The French President had promised to restore the historical building in the next five years, and the work for this was ongoing. But the COVID-19 epidemic closed down the city, much like the rest of the world, and the site was closed in March. Moreover, winter storms, and toxic lead released by the fire had also slowed down the work on the cathedral.

Now, while Paris is not free from the lockdown yet, the repair works will continue during the lockdown period.

Also, as per the rector at Notre-Dame, there has been changes in rooms and showers for workers. It has been reported that the workers are being provided with face masks, hand gels, and meals. Those who are coming in from outside Paris will be hosted in hotels nearby.

France has reported a total of 23293 deaths up until now form the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
