More than 800 km of new bike trails opened in the US for the cycling enthusiasts

Given the current pandemic and lockdown situation, people are left with only a few indoor recreational options and those who can’t stay indoors, picked up new hobbies where social distancing could be followed such as cycling and skating. The cycle industry saw a sudden boom in the popularity of cycling and a number of US towns and cities started reconsidering making the street bike friendly.

So good news! Now cycling enthusiasts can find interesting and uninterrupted bike routes throughout the US. The new bike trails will connect them to more than 100 national park sites in the country. This includes the famous Mammoth Cave National Park and Casa Grande Ruins National Monument.

According to the media reports, the cycling communities in California and Wisconsin have come together with the US Bicycle Route System (USBRS) and introduced more than 500 miles (around 800 km) of new bike routes. The USBRS has created new trails by using several off-road trails, which now connects Milwaukee to the Mississippi River at Bluff Siding.

Craig Thompson, Wisconsin Department of Transportation secretary-designee, said in a statement, “Establishing this route has been years in the making and it’s a great accomplishment for the state. More than 70 communities in 11 counties worked together to create this great transportation corridor that will be enjoyed by local, regional and national bicyclists.”

A cycling path in Nevada was renovated and stretched till Lake Tahoe, further leading to the San Francisco Bay Area. Not only this, with the current development, the cyclists can go on Mormon Emigrant Trail and the very famous El Dorado Trail in California. As of now, USBRS is working with more than 40 states to develop more bike paths and once the work is done, it will become the largest bike network in the world.
