Lockdown impact: Mt Everest visible from a village in Bihar after decades

With every passing day in the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, more and more surprises are sweeping off our feet. Recently, the Dhauladhars have been visible from Jalandhar city of Punjab; one could see the lofty white peaks of Gangotri mountains from UP’s Saharanpur.

Now, believe it or not, Mt Everest can now be seen from a village in Bihar, much to the amazement of the nation! All this is due to the fact that air pollution is the lowest in decades in the current lockdown situation.
The sight of Mt Everest took the residents of Singhwahini village by sheer surprise on Monday, May 4.
Parveen Kaswan, who works for the Indian Forest Services, tweeted the image of the Everest and the surrounding mountain range to break the news on his Twitter handle.

However, the news was actually broken by Ritu Jaiswal, the Mukhiya of Gram Panchayat, Singhwahini. She tweeted in excitement, saying that the residents of the village could see Everest from their terrace.

A user commented on the landmark event tweeting, “Now this is a serious achievement.”

India has been under lockdown since March 25 in order to control the rising cases of Coronavirus infections in the country. The same has been attributed to a number of positive changes on the environmental front, from cleaner rivers and beaches to the return of native animal species to their habitats.
