The famous Konark Sun Temple in Odisha and the entire Konark town will get its power from solar energy in the coming times.
According to a latest press release, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has taken up the task of solarising the Konark Sun Temple and the namesake town.
The innovative scheme is in line with the Government’s vision to transform the ancient Sun Temple in Odisha and the historic Konark Town into Surya Nagri (solar city).
According to the Ministry, this move will help the public to get a message of synergy between the modern use of solar energy and the ancient Sun Temple in Odisha, along with the importance of promoting solar energy.
As per the Ministry, 10 MW grid-connected solar projects and solar off-grid applications, such as off grid solar power plants with battery storage, solar trees, solar drinking water kiosks, will be set up in Konark.
All these will be accomplished with complete financial aid from Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of about INR 25 crore from the Indian Government through the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
As per the ministry, the project will be executed by the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency. Once this scheme is developed, the energy needs of Konark town will be easily met.
This will be a big accomplishment for Odisha’s Konark town and the iconic Sun Temple, which will literally run on the Sun’s energy in the coming times.
