Kolkata airport resumes operations after remaining shut for two months

Kolkata airport or Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is once again ready to welcome flyers after remaining shut for around two months. The airport resumed domestic flight operations to and from West Bengal from Thursday. According to a tweet shared by the Kolkata airport, 122 passengers from Delhi flew into the city after two months.

The airport’s official twitter account read, “Welcome Back Passengers! #KolkataAirport saw the arrival of 122 passengers from @DelhiAirport after two long months and 40 passengers departed to #Guwahati. Proper checks were followed, and regular sanitization was carried out in the terminal that was abuzz with passengers.”

In India, domestic flight operations began on May 25. However, things did not work in the favour of Kolkata as the city was severely hit by cyclone Amphan. The cyclone had caused a lot of damage to the airport, so relief and restoration work was underway.

Flight operations resumed at Kolkata airport from Thursday (May 28). As of now, the airport has allowed only 10 arrivals and departures from Kolkata, given the current situation. Passengers arriving in West Bengal will need to submit a self-declaration form at the time of arrival to the state health officials at the airport.

According to the new guidelines issued by the West Bengal state government for flyers, passengers will have to undergo a mandatory health screening at the point of departure. If a passenger is asymptomatic, he/she will be allowed to get on the plane. While on arrival, screening will be done for all the passengers coming to the city.
