Kochi-London direct flights to commence from the end of August

Air India is starting Kochi-London flight operations from August 28 to September 27, 2020 as part of the Vande Bharat Mission. Air India is already operating repartition flights from London to Delhi, and Mumbai. According to the airline company, there will be two flights per week, one on Fridays, and the other on Sundays. The direct flight between London and Kochi could possibly help a lot of people who are stranded.

A statement by Kochi airport said that Flight AI 1186 will come in from London, and land at Kochi at 00:15 hours on Sundays, and then leave for London at 12:20 hours on the same day. The second flight of the week will land at Kochi at 04:00 hours every Friday, and then depart on the same day at 06:00 hours. This is the first direct flight from Kerala to any European destination, and is a great new initiative for stranded people. Until now, Air India was operating feeder flights to Kochi, with direct flights to Delhi and Mumbai. It has been noted that the direct flights to Kochi will be safer for travellers.

The fate of stranded travellers was unsure during the initial days of lockdown, but the Vande Bharat Mission has swiftly helped numerous stranded passengers. A direct flight between the two cities can definitely minimise the risk of infection.

At present India is starting air travel bubbles with foreign destinations, such as Maldives, and the UAE. This is the beginning of post-COVID travels, and is looking promising but only if all precautions are taken, and people are aware of the gravity of the situation. While this Kochi-London flight service is only until September 27, we can hope for a permanent direct flight in the near future.
