Italy goes easy on lockdown restrictions after recording low COVID-19 cases

Good news from Italy! After being under strict lockdown for weeks, Italy eased down and reopened on Monday after COVID-19 cases fell significantly across the country. All the coffee shops, restaurants, and cinema halls in the country were closed for weeks due to the rising number in virus cases. But now the country has eased lockdown restrictions.

Italy’s 14 regions are now given the “yellow,” status which means low COVID-19 risk zone. But five regions are still on orange level and just one region, Sardinia, is under red alert, as reported by the local media.

Though restaurants in the 14 regions have been allowed to operate and entertain customers, there is a 10 PM curfew in the country. Now museums and cinemas have also been allowed to hold outdoor events and indoor capacity is limited to 50 percent. Also schools and universities in yellow and orange zones have been allowed to resume.

One of the prime attractions in Italy, Colosseum is also now open for individual visitors, but group tours are still banned. In the coming weeks, Italy will ease more restrictions which might include opening of pools and gyms.

Italy has recorded nearly 3.98 million COVID-19 positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic while more than 120000 people have lost their lives to the virus till date.
