Indore airport installs smart machine to maintain physical distance among passengers

A smart machine equipped with artificial intelligence-based sensors has been tactfully placed at Indore’s Devi Ahilyabai Holkar international airport. The purpose of the machine is to caution people about maintaining physical distance of at least a metre.

According to the latest reports, the machine is supported by an in-built alarm which gives out warnings in both English and Hindi by using words like – Door Rahiye, Surakshit Rahiye and Keep Distance, Stay Safe.

Reportedly, airport director Aryma Sanyal told leading online news daily that the machine has been made by a private firm. It was inaugurated by Indore’s BJP MP Shankar Lalwani on June 24. The significance of deploying this machine at the airport is the spread the awareness about the risk involved in COVID-19 and also to keep a check on its transmission within the airport premises.

For now, the airport authorities are using the machine on an experimental basis at the departure gate. However, another machine will be deployed at the arrival gate.

Indore is one of the worst affected destinations in Madhya Pradesh. The city, which has a good reputation for its cleanliness, has been facing a hard time since April in flattening out the COVID-19 curve. Indore is also famous for its food.
