Indian Railways cancels these trains between Bihar and Jharkhand

In a major development, the Indian Railways has cancelled two major trains running between Bihar and Jharkhand from July 13. The trains, Patna-Ranchi-Patna Janshatabdi Express and Tatanagar-Danapur Express, have been cancelled until further notice to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The decision was taken after the Jharkhand government requested the railway board to discontinue the two trains originating from Bihar and going to Jharkhand. From today, Patna-Ranchi Janshatabdi will only run between Patna to Gaya.

Just a day ago, Jharkhand Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister, Mithilesh Thakur was reported Coronavirus positive. After this, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and his principal secretary Rajiv Arun Ekka, who were in close contact with Thakur, have quarantined themselves.

Apparently, the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Jharkhand have gone up and over 3300, which has left the state government worried. Because of the alarming jump in the cases, Hazaribagh in Jharkhand has put the district under a strict lockdown for a week from July 10 and cases are also being reported from the mining city of Dhanbad.

On Thursday, 171 new cases were reported and on Friday. More than 2000 cases have been reported from migrant workers who came back from several parts of the country, including some virus hotspot regions, such as Delhi and Gujarat, to name a few.

Cancelling the trains is one of the measures the Jharkhand government is taking to contain the spread of the virus in the state. Rajesh Kumar, Public Relations Officer for East Central Railway, said that the operations of Janshatabdi Express will now continue from Patna to Gaya in Bihar only and starting today, this train will not enter Jharkhand.
