Hotels and tourist accommodations in Delhi to reopen

At the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) held today to discuss the reopening of hotels and gyms in Delhi, the long-awaited approval has been given to reopen the hotels in the capital. According to the latest reports, gymnasiums, and yoga centres will stay closed; weekly markets will re-open on a trial basis.

The decision has come after four months of wait which the hotels in Delhi had to endure due to the lockdown imposed to control the ongoing pandemic. Reportedly, the owners of around 3000 budget hotels and guest houses Delhi had to do away with more than 75 per cent of their staff, and are grappling with unpaid bills running into lakhs.

Although Delhi has seen a steady decrease in the severity of COVID-19 crisis by July end, the AAP government has allowed hotels in the capital to restart their normal operations during early August. However, L-G Anil Baijal disagreed with the decision saying the situation is still fragile. The DDMA was supposed to be held on August 18, but got postponed for the following day.

While this decision comes as a huge relief to the hotels and tourist accommodations in Delhi, gymnasiums will have to wait for more time before the government allows them to open shop.
