Himachal Pradesh extends lockdown in 2 districts; Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected

While the lockdown in India is to end on May 31, Himachal Pradesh has already announced an extension in two of its districts. According to reports, the Himachali districts of Solan and Hamirpur are going to remain under lockdown until June 30. The government in Himachal Pradesh has asked districts to extend the lockdown if required.

With a total of 214 cases of coronavirus in the state of Himachal Pradesh, the state is not taking any risk, and is taking action. While Solan has had 21 cases so far, Hamirpur has reported 63 cases of the Coronavirus. Reports suggest that during the extended period of lockdown, the districts of Solan and Hamirpur will remain for essential services, and there would be a few hours of curfew relaxation everyday.

While domestic air travel in India has now begun, and the Indian Railways has also started operating 200 trains, there still remains doubt regarding what our future holds. During such a time, as the rest of the country is planning to return to normalcy, and is waiting for the lockdown to end, Himachal Pradesh decides to go the other way. But as they say, prevention is better than cure, so perhaps it is the ideal decision.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in this pandemic, with over 50000 confirmed cases of coronavirus. Only yesterday, the city of Pune recorded 459 positive cases of COVID-19. While Mumbai has somewhere around 30000 confirmed cases in the state.
