Heard of ‘Home Marathon’? Well, it’s happening in Dubai on April 10!

Dubai is one destination that never ceases to surprise the world. This time, the city has done another exceptional thing by organising a ‘home marathon’ amid the COVID-19 outbreak. It would be the world’s first-ever Home Marathon with 749 runners representing 62 nations, who would be participating in the marathon that is all set to take place on April 10.

The runners from across the globe will turn their houses into a 42.195 km arena. The event will see 526 men and 223 women running in the marathon; while the youngest participant is 18, the oldest is 65.

The event is happening in collaboration between Dubai Sports Council, 5:30 Run Club and ASICS Middle East and is a part of Dubai’s sports council’s ‘Be Fit, Be Safe’ and #stayhome campaigns.

Basic requirements

1) Those participating are allowed to make their own running course; however, they can’t use a treadmill or any other gym equipment for that matter.
2) Also, the main focus is running inside the house. Running outside is strictly prohibited.
3) Runners must have a fully-charged smartwatch or smartphone on them.

4) They must have the Strava app, where they can connect to the ‘Marathon at Home’ group.
5)The app will detect the movement of the participants and will keep a track of their timing and distance travelled.

This is not it, there’s a prize for the winners. Along with getting a certificate from ASICSME and 5:30 Run, the winners will also win an ASICS T-Shirt and a medal. The top three male and female participants will also receive an entry ticket to the Moscow Marathon (to be held in September).

The marathon is a perfect opportunity to spread the message of that even in quarantine, people can stay fit inside their homes.
