Goa declared ‘Green Zone’ with zero cases of COVID-19

While the number of COVID-19 cases is growing and the fight against it is far from over, Goa has been declared a ‘Green Zone’ today. Amid the nation-wide lockdown and Coronavirus cases, the Central Government has formally announced that both the districts of Goa are COVID-free green zones.

Soon after this announcement, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant appreciated the efforts of Corona warriors and support of Goa people that helped Goa to become a COVID-free state. However, he also added that the war against the virus is far from over.

He also emphasised that the fight must continue against the virus by adopting a healthy lifestyle, and adopting safe health norms, such as wearing masks, and maintaining social distancing even after the lockdown period is over.

Goa declared ‘Green Zone’ with zero cases of COVID-19

As the country is nearing the end of phase 2 lockdown, the Union Health Ministry has outlined 130 districts across the country in the red, orange, and green zones. This list was prepared after taking into account the incidence of COVID-19 cases, their doubling rates, and the extent of testing.

Any region will be considered a green zone that has not reported COVID-19 cases in the past 21 days, and has no active cases. The classification of the districts has to be followed by states and union territories for a week, post May 3. after the lockdown ends, for containment operations.

Earlier, it was reported that while South Goa was declared a Green Zone, North Goa was still under Red Zone. Reportedly, all the COVID-19 cases were from North Goa. The last positive case reported from here was on April 4. That time, the Goa Chief Minister stated that if North Goa doesn’t report any such cases further, it will also become a Green Zone by April 17.

However, now both the districts are free from any such cases, and Goa has been declared a Green Zone by the Central Government.
