Domestic flight operations begins from today, except in Andhra, West Bengal

After much speculation, domestic flights in India are now ready to take off across the country except in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal from today (25 May). Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced late on Sunday that besides Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, flights will resume operations from Monday. In the meeting, Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) for states and Union Territories was also discussed.

Puri took to twitter and said “It has been a long day of hard negotiations with various state govts to recommence civil aviation operations in the country. Except Andhra Pradesh which will start on 26/5 & West Bengal on 28/5, domestic flights will recommence across the country from tomorrow.”

The domestic flights will be operational in Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada and Vizag airports) from May 26. Operations will recommence from 28 May in West Bengal, considering Kolkata airport was recently hit by Cyclone Amphan. The airport authorities have decided not to operate any domestic flights from May 25 to 27.

The government has requested the Ministry of Civil Aviation for some time as restoration work is still going on at the airport after the cyclone.

Puri furter tweeted and informed the countrymen, “Starting tomorrow, there will be limited flights from Mumbai & as per approved ⅓ schedule from other airports in the state. Limited operations to West Bengal will commence on 28th May 2020”.

The urgent meeting was called by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and all the airport operators to discuss the domestic flight operations resumption from May 25. Flight operations in the country were paused from the past two months, given the nationwide lockdown triggered by the Coronavirus.

On May 20, the central government announced that domestic passenger flights can resume from May 25.
