Brazil to get a new statue of Jesus, taller than Rio's Christ the Redeemer

Brazil’s city of Encantado is all set to get a 140-feet-tall statue called ‘Christ the Protector’, which will be taller that it’s famous counterpart in Rio de Janerio.

As per the reports, the ‘Christ the Protector’ statue is being built in Encantado, a small town in Brazil’s southernmost state, Rio Grande do Sul, by a local organization. When completed, the new statue will stand tall at a height of 140-ft, which will then become the world’s tallest Jesus statue.

Rio’s Christ The Redeemer statue is 124 ft tall and spans 91 ft from hand to hand, whereas the outstretched arms of ‘Christ of Protector’ will measure 118 ft from tip to tip.

As per the reports, the statue will be built at an estimated cost of 2 million reals. The primary objective of building this statue is to inspire faith and boost tourism in the region.

However, the statue will become the world’s third-tallest statue of Jesus, after a 249-ft statue that is currently under construction in Mexico, and the 172-ft monument in Poland.

Reportedly, the statue will also feature an elevator that will take tourists to a lookout at the height of Christ’s heart. It will also have a glass opening which will enable people to film and photograph the valley.

Reports have it that the construction of the statue began in 2019, whereas sculpting the head, took three months, and it weighs around 40 tons. Reportedly, the was designed by a local priest, but the project idea came from politician and city mayor Adroaldo Conzatti, who passed away due to COVID-29 in March.
