Bengaluru gets India's first AC railway terminal with modern amenities

India’s first AC railway terminal in Bengaluru is ready to be inaugurated by the end of February 2021. Made at an estimated cost of INR 314 crore, the railway terminal has been designed to offer an airport-like experience.

The terminal has been named after Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya, and is Bengaluru’s third railway terminal in Baiyappanahalli area. It has been built as an answer to the need for adding more express trains connecting the city.


The features of this special terminal are as under:

It is India’s first centrally air-conditioned railway terminal made along similar to the Bengaluru airport. It has the capacity to handle operations of 50 trains at the same time every day. The modish station building of 4200 sq m can accommodate about 50000 passengers on a daily basis.

Reportedly, the terminal has seven platforms, 8 stabling lines and 3 pit lines. The escalators and lifts will be accessible to seven platforms to allow passenger movement. In addition, a foot over-bridge built along with two subways will connect all platforms. There will be an upper-class waiting hall, a wonderful food court and a VIP lounge with a digital real-time passenger information system at the station terminal.
