Badrinath Temple in Uttarakhand opens without devotees today, first puja conducted on PM Modi’s behalf

The gates to the revered Badrinath Temple in Uttarakhand opened today early this morning without a single devotee. A low-ceremony was performed at the Himalayan temple which was attended only by a select group of priests, and Devasthanam Board officials.

As informed by the incharge of Devasthanam Board Harish Gaud, the chief priest of the temple, Rawal Ishwari Prasad Nambudiri opened the gates of the temple at 4.30 AM. Everyone present there was seen wearing a face mask and maintaining social distance.

According to the temple officials, the very first puja was performed on the behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the welfare of mankind. In the pictures released by the officials, the temple looks absolutely beautiful, and was decorated with 10 quintals of flowers and glittering lights.

On the auspicious occasion, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj expressed their happiness and congratulated devotees on the temple’s reopening. The ministers also said that together they will defeat the deadly Coronavirus, and will soon commence the sacred Chardham Yatra for devotees.

Badrinath temple is one of the chardham yatra temples in Uttarakhand and was supposed to open on April 30. But given the pandemic situation, the shrine could not open on the scheduled date. The temple generally remains open every year for around six months, as during winters, the path leading to it gets covered in snow, making it impossible for devotees to reach.
