Railway Ministry says Shramik Special trains are to run from all districts

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted saying that Shamrik Special trains will be running from any district in the country. This is being done in order to provide relief to migrant labours. Migrant workers are faced with a massive problem as India continues to be under lockdown, and the Shramik Special trains will now help them to travel to their respective home states.

The Railway Minister also said that district collectors must prepare lists of all stranded migrant labourers, and their destination. They should then apply to the Railways through the State nodal officer. The Shramik trains began operating from May 1, and according to statistics, a total of 15 lakh migrant workers have already been transported through these trains. The railways can run about 300 of these trains on a daily basis.

Meantime, the first Shramik Special left for West Bengal from Mumbai on Saturday. Maharashtra Home Minister said that there must be at least 10 such trains running daily to West Bengal, and Bihar. The first Shramik Special left for Howrah from Mumbai, while another left for Gaya from Kalyan.

South Western Railway is reportedly going to operate two Shramik Special trains to Uttar Pradesh. The trains are going to transport migrant workers, and as well as tourists, students, and others. The train will run on May 17 and 18 to Basti via Lucknow. It will leave Hubballi Railway Station at 9 am. On the other hand, a Shramik train that was scheduled to run to Bihar on Sunday has now been cancelled. A new date of departure will be announced soon.
