New York becoming new epicentre of COVID-19; Illinois and California issue ‘stay-at-home’ order

The United States too joined the lockdown wagon after COVID-19 positive cases soared in New York accounting for about 5 percent of the world’s confirmed cases! With the number of cases increasing, the authorities are warned of a major shortage of medical supplies in the region.

On Sunday, New York enforced restrictions on commuting and public transports (unless extremely urgent) to slow down the pandemic. As per current updates, New York, Illinois and California have issued ‘stay-at-home’ orders to contain the COVID 19 from spreading further.

Governor of Illinois J.B. Pritzker issued a stay-at-home order, and by doing so, it has become the next state after New York and California to implement lockdowns across the city. The governor said that he has asked all the experts regarding what action can be taken to save most lives.

“Well, they’ve come back to me with one inescapable conclusion: To avoid the loss of potentially tens of thousands of lives, we must enact an immediate stay-at-home order for the state of Illinois,” he further mentioned.

California had announced its mandate ‘stay-at-home’ order on Thursday only and New York followed the lead on Friday by issuing an order banning all non-essential workers to stay home.

Till now, more than 335000 people have been tested positive for Coronavirus, and the virus has already claimed nearly 14600 innocent lives across the globe, and the numbers are only going up every day.

In the United States only, there have been reports of nearly 33000 confirmed cases and 400 deaths, and among this New York alone accounts for 15000 of Coronavirus cases.
