Kushinagar Airport is ready for a major upgrade to create space for the movement of international flights. After this development, Kushinagar will be India’s 29th international airport after this major development, and it will improve its connectivity with other parts of the world which, in turn will give a significant boost to the tourism and economy of the region.

Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Aviation Minister, made the announcement through a tweet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared a tweet about the development of the airport into an international one and how it would benefit tourism.

Kushinagar is a Buddhist pilgrimage town in Uttar Pradesh. It holds great significance among the Buddhist and the followers of Buddhism for the fact that Gautam Buddha had attained Parinirvana (final departure from the world) in this town. It is also famous as an international Buddhist pilgrimage centre. According to a legend, Kushinagar has been named after Kush, one of the sons of the legendary King Rama of Ayodhya, the main protagonist of the Ramayana, a major Hindu epic. It is also said that Kushinagar has received its name from the Kusha grass, grown in ample amounts in the region.
