International Yoga Festival kicks off in Rishikesh, to continue till March 7

Rishikesh is hosting the International Yoga Festival, which saw nearly 400 participants participating in the event over the first day.

The morning session witnessed yoga guru Kapil Sanghvi conducting a well-attended, enlightening session on pranayam (breath control exercises), whereas Usha Mata held a session on Iyengar Yoga.

The seven-day International Yoga Festival will conclude on March 7. The festival was inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Subodh Uniyal, head of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad (ABAP) Narendra Giri, and Chairman of Patanjali Yogpeeth Balkrishna in Rishikesh on Monday. The festival is being jointly organised by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) and Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB).

While addressing the gathering during the fest, Uniyal stated that they have gathered here at Rishikesh, also known as Yognagari, to celebrate the age-old practice of Yoga. He added that the aim of Yoga is not only to keep people fit, but also to end the negativity within the human beings. He further added that Rishikesh is the motherland of Yoga, and one can find one can find Yogis and Yoginis across the world who have either been trained here or are either natives of Rishikesh.

“Yoga is the identity of Rishikesh and is a bridge spanning global boundaries and bringing people together, connecting them to our culture and roots along with their inner self,” Uniyal emphasised.
