Kashmir is fast developing its offbeat destinations for tourism these days. After the state tourism board set up cafés, resorts and other tourist facilities in Kokernag, the Indian Army has renovated a café in Uri along the LoC.
According to the latest reports, the café named Café Freedom has been re-established at Kaman Aman Setu in the final post of the Indian Army in Kashmir. The café operations have begun after four long years. For long, the border areas of India have remained cut off from the tourists, more so, in Kashmir. However, the situation is changing now it seems.
Given the strife on the Indo-Pak border in Uri, it was impossible for any tourist to even think of visiting the place. But thanks to the new initiative by the Indian Army, a cafeteria is functional in Uri to offer a border-visit experience to the visitors. The café has been opened when India-Pakistan relations normal, more so after the ceasefire agreement announced by the two countries.
Visitors can enjoy a hot cuppa at the newly opened cafeteria, relish the snack, take a selfie on the bridge, and take souvenirs as a memory of their border visit. A towering 60 ft national flag has been installed at the café site which has created a nice ambiance.
Uri is a town situated on the left bank of Jhelum River, about 10 km east of the LoC with Pakistan.
