Bengaluru is now home to India’s first centralized AC railway terminal. Indian Railways has been developing a modern coaching terminal at Baiyappanahalli in Bengaluru, which will be featuring all the enhanced facilities and claims to offer you airport-like aura.
Recently, the Ministry of Railways tweeted regarding this and stated that it will feature passenger amenities like VIP lounge, food court, and digital real-time passenger information system. The Ministry also added that it will be India’s largest train terminal with centralized AC and most modern facilities. As per the news reports, the said centrally air-conditioned Sir M Visvesvaraya Railway Terminal at Baiyappanahalli in Bengaluru will likely be inaugurated soon. Reportedly, the terminal will be handling more trains, connecting the city with other railway stations across the country.
As per the reports, the INR 314 crore station building, spread over 4200 sqm, will be able to cater to a daily footfall of 50000. A foot overbridge has also been built along with two subways that will link all platforms. There are seven platforms at the terminal, apart from three pit lines and eight stabling lines. Lifts and escalators will be facilitating passenger movement within the platforms, whereas the terminal will handle operations of 50 trains every day.

The massive parking area of the railway terminal will be able to harbour as many as 900 two-wheelers, 250 cars, five BMTC buses, 50 autorickshaws, and 20 cabs.
Reports have it that M Visvesvaraya terminal has been designed on the lines of Bengaluru airport, and will feature enhanced facilities, along with a lavish food court, and waiting hall. The terminal will also boast of its own water recycling plant of 4 lakh-litre capacity.
Sanctioned in 2015-16, this terminal was supposed to be up and running in December 2018. However, after missing several deadlines, the country’s first centralised AC railway terminal is all set to be inaugurated soon.
